In recent years, graduates of STAR Center’s The Engineering Candidate Hawsepipe (TECH) program have been described as stars in the making throughout the AMO fleet.
The TECH Program took a different star turn after recently being featured on the web series “Salty Jobs,” a show that shines a light on job opportunities within the maritime industry. The show, produced by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, visited STAR Center’s Dania Beach campus in June and went through a day in the life of a TECH program apprentice.
Created in 2013, the TECH Program puts candidates through 30 months of rigorous in-class and on the job training before graduating the program with the necessary skills to sit for their Third Assistant Engineer’s license and joining the ranks of American Maritime Officers.
Along with interviewing STAR Center staff, the Salty Jobs show hosts talked to TECH cadets on what they have learned and why they chose a life at sea.
The episode, which was released in July, can be viewed on the AMO YouTube Channel.
