American Maritime Officers bid farewell to the USNS GySgt Fred W. Stockham, which was recently retired from naval service following 28 years of service to the United States of America.

Named in honor of World War I veteran and Medal of Honor recipient GySgt Fred W. Stockham, USMC, the Military Sealift Command vessel was tasked throughout its illustrious career with providing logistical support for the United States Marine Corps and larger Department of Defense community. In 2022, USNS Stockham – with an AMO-led crew at the helm – delivered valuable wartime aid to European allies in the face of military aggression.

AMO and the Stockham was called to service in Gaza at the request of the President in 2024, and the USNS Stockham again brilliantly performed its duties in supporting the Joint Force.

On her final voyage, the AMO crew proudly noted the Stockham sailed into the recycling center under her own power.
