Members of American Maritime Officers, along with AMO Plans and STAR Center directors and staff, AMO officials and staff, and members of the American Merchant Marine Veterans, gathered for a National Maritime Day ceremony at the memorial for the crew of El Faro on the STAR Center campus on May 22. Speaking at the ceremony was Dania Beach Mayor A.J. Ryan IV. Delivering the benediction and blessing the wreaths was Father Sanford R. Sears, Port Chaplain – Lieutenant (USCG retired), of Seafarers’ House, Port Everglades.

In San Francisco, the “West Coast Memorial” is a tribute to Army soldiers, Navy sailors, Marines, Merchant Mariners and Airmen who met their deaths defending our country, specifically from World War II. The West Coast Memorial consists of a curved gray granite wall decorated with sculptures and engraved with the names of 413 missing whose remains were never recovered or identified.
