State University of New York officers sailing as applicants and members of American Maritime Officers aboard the National Security Multi-Mission Vessel Empire State during its delivery to SUNY Maritime College in September included Captain Morgan McManus, Third Assistant Engineer Dominick Valvo, Second Mate Craig Lyon and Third Mate Anthony Guarascio. With them is AMO Career Advancement Liaison Kathleen Friel. AMO officers will deliver each vessel from Philly Shipyard to each maritime academy. AMO members will also work aboard the first three of five vessels being built when activated for a national defense, emergency relief or natural disaster mission by the Maritime Administration. While each maritime academy will be responsible for staffing the vessels during normal operations, AMO members will be used for cadet training cruises if needed.
