The following press release was issued by the National Maritime Center on August 18.
The National Maritime Center (NMC) has new fax numbers. On September 1, 2025, the old fax numbers will be disconnected, and users will receive a transmission failure or error if attempting to fax to the old numbers.
Effective immediately, the following NEW fax numbers are operational:
* 540-317-4551 – Submission of NMC course approvals, designated examiner, and qualified assessor requests and additional information (AI) when e-mail is not an option.
* 540-317-4552 – Submission of open-book renewal exercise answer sheets when e-mail is not an option.
* 540-317-4553 – General inquiries/records requests not related to credential applications, such as request for copies of mariner service records and verifying World War II merchant mariner service toward veteran status, when e-mail is not an option
* 540-317-4554 – Submission of merchant mariner credential (MMC) applications and requested AI when e-mail is not an option
* 540-317-4556 – Submission of medical applications and requested AI when e-mail is not an option.
It is important to note this transition does not impact the NMC’s Customer Contact Center telephone number. 1-888-IASKNMC (427-5662) remains the primary contact telephone number for NMC operations.
