AMO Captain: TECH grads providing “unselfish” boost to the fleet

null

The following was a correspondence sent by American Maritime Officers member Andrew Mayher, master onboard the Isla Bella to STAR Center Direct of Training Gerard Pannell.

Jerry,

Hope all is well with you! I just wanted to take a moment and pass along to you some information on what the AMO TECH Program has done for the fleet.

We currently are sailing short a Third Assistant Engineer. Both Second A.E. Garret Smith and Third A.E. Spencer Taylor are TECH Program graduates.

Spencer has been onboard since mid-April and Garrett since the beginning of June. We just got back in service after a fast and furious shipyard period in Freeport, Bahamas. Both Garrett and Spencer have performed with tenacity and professionalism throughout. Recently, we found out that a second A.E. was coming soon to relieve Garrett.

Upon hearing this, the first words that came from him were, “What about Spencer?”

Garrett volunteered to stay onboard until another Third A.E. joins so that Spencer can go home.

What an unselfish act of one shipmate looking out for another!

Thank you and all at the STAR Center for everything you all do!

Best Regards,

Captain Andrew M. Mayher
