Deep Sea Employment Requirements:

ENGINE:

  • U.S. Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer’s License or higher rating, steam or motor, unlimited horsepower.
  • Refrigeration Recovery Certification, Hazardous Materials Certification.
  • Current: STCW, Passport, Merchant Mariner’s Document, Drug-Free Card and Benzene Card (tankers only)

DECK:

  • U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate’s License or higher rating, steam and motor, unlimited tonnage.
  • Current: STCW, Radar Observer, FCC GMDSS Operator, Hazardous Materials Certification, Passport, Merchant Mariner’s Document, Drug-Free Card and Benzene Card (tankers only).

ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN & RADIO OFFICER:

  • U.S. Coast Guard Radio Officer License, Hazardous Materials Certification, Radar Repair Certificate.
  • Current STCW, Passport, Merchant Mariner’s Document, Drug-Free Card and Benzene Card (tankers only).

RADIO-ELECTRONICS OFFICER:

  • GMDSS Maintainer, Hazardous Materials Certification.
  • Current: STCW, Passport, Merchant Mariner’s Document, Drug-Free Card and Benzene Card (tankers only).

Great Lakes Employment Requirements:

ENGINE:

U.S. Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer’s License, steam or motor, any horsepower (or higher rating)

DECK:

  • U.S. Coast First Class Pilot’s License and FCC Marine Radio Operator’s Permit (inspected vessels), and/or
  • U.S. Coast Guard Mate, 1,600 gross tons or higher rating (uninspected vessels)
  • There are also unlicensed employment opportunities through AMO in both the deck and engine departments of U.S. Great Lakes vessels.

Inland Waters Employment Requirements:

U.S. Coast Guard Designated Duty Engineer, 4,000 horsepower (or higher engine rating)

DECK:

U.S. Coast Guard Master/Mate 500 gross tons officer’s license (or higher deck rating)
