New jobs as AMO mans cable ship Resolute
AMO officers aboard seventh vessel in Tyco Electronics Subsea Communications fleet

Members of American Maritime Officers in June manned the cable ship Resolute in Lisbon, Portugal, bringing the fleet of Tyco cable ships operated under contract with AMO to seven and adding new jobs to the union's employment base.

"The decision to have AMO man the Resolute reflects the company's confidence in the professionalism and performance of AMO officers, and our union's history of excellent service in the cable ship fleet," said the AMO national president.

"The reliable record established by Tyco in the subsea cable installation and maintenance trade continues to translate into success for the company and new work for the AMO membership," he said. "We're excited by the expansion of our presence in the only U.S.-owned fleet of cable ships and the ongoing growth of AMO's commercial job base."

The 460-foot internationally registered Resolute is one of six Reliance Class ships in the Tyco Electronics Subsea Communications fleet operated by Transoceanic Cable Ship. The Reliance Class ships are powered by diesel electric propulsion and employ Kongsberg dynamic positioning systems. Each of the Reliance Class ships is manned in all licensed positions by AMO.

The Resolute will be based in Taiwan and will operate in undersea cable installation, maintenance and repair missions in the Far East.
