AMO enters job venture with Faststream Recruitment Inc.
American Maritime Officers and Faststream Recruitment Inc. have entered the first phase of an exclusive relationship geared toward increasing job opportunities for AMO members and expanding careers with AMO to include shore side employment after seagoing careers.

Faststream specializes in finding and placing shipping personnel throughout the U.S., South America and Central America. The company's recruiting consultants assist industry personnel in locating and securing their next appointments and provide advice and support throughout the entire process. Faststream has helped many businesses and corporate clients obtain qualified personnel for key positions.

AMO National President Tom Bethel and representatives of the union and RTM STAR Center met with Faststream Vice President Craig Johnson and Managing Consultant Tim Green Sept. 5 at the company's Fort Lauderdale, Fla., office for the latest in a series of productive discussions on a tentative agreement.

"We're working to expand our field of employers and thinking outside of the box to create new job opportunities for the membership," Bethel said following the meeting. "Our relationship with Faststream has the potential to provide new career paths and enhance the traditional seagoing careers of AMO members. The union will continue to pursue every available avenue to expand opportunity and advancement for the membership."

Faststream will also "help our union recruit qualified individuals for developing and potential employment under AMO contract, with full participation in all AMO benefit plans," Bethel said. "Seagoing personnel recruited by Faststream for AMO will be referred to AMO dispatchers and will be considered applicants for AMO membership."

Johnson also remarked upon the positive outlook of the relationship.

"With our offices in Europe, Scandinavia, North America and, soon, in the Far East, this is a global relationship with a look toward growth in the future," Johnson said. "We look at both upcoming U.S.-flag business, as well as that of the foreign-flag markets as they consider introducing American mariners into their fleets."

Faststream and AMO will work in tandem on recruiting and marketing for domestic and international shipping trades. With its extensive industry network, Faststream will refer mariners for available jobs with AMO-contracted companies. The company will also provide an avenue for AMO members to explore international sailing opportunities, shore side positions within the maritime industry and contract work as AMO-covered employment.

Faststream Recruitment Inc. was established in 2006 to meet the increasing demand for shipping and maritime personnel in the U.S. market. The Florida office represents the first stage of United Kingdom shipping recruiter Faststream Recruitment Limited's international development strategy.
