Shipping Activity Declining For U.S.-Flag Fleet
As imports of low-priced foreign steel continued to increase in U.S.
markets, shipping activity in the U.S.-flag Great Lakes fleet declined in
June and speculative reports indicate another drop for July.
Dumped Steel Imports Increased From June To July
Again faced with increasing imports of cheap steel, representatives of the
U.S. steel industry in late August issued a reminder that the steel
"dumping" crisis threatening U.S. mills and the Great Lakes maritime
industry is not resolved.
