Budget proposal would cut Food for Peace
Funding for U.S.-flag humanitarian cargoes could drop by up to 25 percent
The M/V Harriette carries U.S. food-aid cargoes under PL 480 Title II. The Bush administration’s 2008 proposed budget would cut PL 480 Title II Food for Peace cargoes in U.S. vessels by up to 25 percent and convert the food-aid funding to cash grants. The Harriette is one of 12 ships operated by Sealift Inc. and manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers.
