Delaware North signs; ARC adds car carrier; MSC awards charters

American Maritime Officers members will benefit from positive developments
in the deep sea and inland waters sectors, including the addition of a new
car carrier to the AMO fleet.
In July, negotiations had been completed with and a contract signed by
Delaware North Companies Inc. for the three paddlewheel cruise vessels
previously operated by the Delta Queen Steamboat Company. AMO will continue
to provide the licensed officers and some crew aboard the three cruise
vessels under the new long-term agreement.
A new car carrier is slated to join the AMO fleet in November. The car
carrier will be the fifth such vessel owned by American Roll-On Roll-Off
Carrier and manned in all licensed positions by AMO, and is intended for
service between U.S., Mediterranean and Black Sea ports, focusing on U.S.
Department of Defense, Department of State, ExImbank and other U.S.-flag
preference cargoes.
Sealift Inc. won five-year charters from Military Sealift Command for two
cargo ships. Sealift will fill the charters with the containership Capt.
Steven L. Bennett and RO/RO Merlin, creating stable and lasting employment
for AMO members on both ships.
