    Construction Begins On U.S. Cruise Ship
    Steel Cut For First Such Vessel To Be Built By U.S. Shipyard In More Than 40 Years
    An artist's rendering of the design for the two deep-sea cruise ships American Classic Voyages is building at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Mississippi for U.S.-flag cruise services in the Hawaiian Islands.
          Construction of the largest cruise ship ever built in the U.S. began Independence Day weekend at a Mississippi shipyard. The ship is the first of two ordered from Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula by American Classic Voyages Co. for its new United States Lines subsidiary. The luxury vessels will be operated under AMO contract in the Hawaiian Islands, beginning in 2003 and 2004.
