    Mariners recognized for hurricane relief service
    AMO members among those awarded medals for work on reserve, training vessels
    The Maritime Administration on National Maritime Day presented the Merchant Marine Medal for Outstanding Achievement to officers and crew members of several of the agency's vessels that supported recovery efforts after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

    The recipients of the medal were the officers and crews of six ships from the Maritime Administration's Ready Reserve Force, three ships from state maritime academies and one ship from the agency's National Defense Reserve Fleet.

    The Ready Reserve Force ships serving in the hurricane relief efforts were the Cape Kennedy, Cape Knox, Cape Vincent, Diamond State, Equality State and Wright. The training ships were the State of Maine, Empire State and Sirius. The National Defense Reserve Fleet vessel was the Texas Clipper II.
