Three ships with AMO officers aboard have been cited by the Navy for their sealift service to Kosovo in 1999. The ships were: the roll-on/roll-off Maritime Prepositioning Ship 2nd Lt. John P. Bobo, operated for the Navy's Military Sealift Command by American Overseas Marine Inc., or AMSEA; the T-AGOR oceanographic and special mission vessel USNS Pathfinder, operated for MSC by Dyn Marine Services; and the RO/RO Capt. Steven L. Bennett, operated for MSC by Sealift Inc. I have been able to make good use of the excellent training I have taken at RTM STAR Center (Simulation, Training, Assessment and Research Center, operated by the AMO Safety & Education Plan In Dania Beach, Fla. and Toledo, Oh.) from the moment I walked up the gangway. Thanks to you, the instructors, materials, and simulation, not only are our ships and jobs better understood and safer, but there is a lot of talk regarding our training as well. Congressman Gene Taylor (D-MS) recently toured the USNS Red Cloud, one in a series of new large medium-speed roll-on/roll-off vessels operated by Maersk Line Ltd. for the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command and manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers. |
