Article XX hearing on M/V Cort scheduled for May 30
The AFL-CIO scheduled a hearing May 30 to address the charge that MEBA violated Article XX of the AFL-CIO Constitution by manning the Great Lakes vessel M/V Stewart J. Cort, which is operated by Interlake Leasing III, Inc., for Mittal Steel USA. AMO-represented officers and stewards were told by Interlake executives to sever ties with AMO and join MEBA in order to keep their jobs on the ship, and were fired for refusing to do so. AMO members continue to picket the ship. Manning the line at Burns Harbor were AMO Great Lakes Assistant Vice President Brian Krus, James Mayhew, Cort Second A.E. Rob Fluharty, AMO Representative Stan Barnes and Cort Third A.E. Jesse Lyman.
