Maritime administrator tours RTM STAR Center
RTM STAR Center Director of Training Phil Shullo (left) leads a tour of the Dania Beach, Fla., waterfront training facilities with Maritime Administrator Sean Connaughton (center) and Roger Bohnert, Maritime Administration deputy associate administrator for port, intermodal and environmental activities. Connaughton, Deputy Maritime Administrator Julie Nelson and Bohnert visited the Florida facility April 17. Their tour included briefings on the history and development of STAR Center, full-mission simulation training and liquefied natural gas (LNG) training on the MPRI LNG simulator.
Participating in the STAR Center tour April 17 were (left to right) Director of Training Phil Shullo, Deputy Maritime Administrator Julie Nelson, AMO National Vice President At Large Ed Kelly, Maritime Administrator Sean Connaughton, Roger Bohnert from MARAD, Michael Golonka, director of contract operations for Crowley Liner Services, and Thomas Merrell, vice president of marine operations for American Overseas Marine.
American Maritime Officers member and STAR Center Instructor Greg Musk demonstrates the capabilities of an MPRI LNG simulator, on which AMO members train for work in the international LNG trades. STAR Center trained instructors from Massachusetts Maritime Academy on the MPRI simulator, as well as instructors from Maine Maritime Academy and the California Maritime Academy.
