USNS Watkins featured in History Channel program 'Modern Marvels: Military Movers 2'
The USNS Watkins will be featured in an upcoming History Channel program, Modern Marvels: Military Movers 2. The program is scheduled to air the evening of April 18.

The program will highlight six key military transportation platforms, with the Watkins representing military sealift. American Maritime Officers members working aboard the Watkins who were interviewed for the program included Capt. Alex Ryan, Chief Engineer Terence Russell and Chief Mate Ann Buckell.

According to the producers, the show will "spotlight LMSRs, which are some of the largest non-combatant ships in the military. Reaching nearly a thousand feet in length (as big as many aircraft carriers) they are capable of carrying an entire U.S. Army task force. Employing a pair of ramps, any type of vehicle can be quickly and easily driven directly into the cargo hull when loaded, or driven out onto the dock when unloaded."
