• Umpire hits MEBA with second Article XX violation
          An impartial umpire this month ruled the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association violated Article XX of the AFL-CIO Constitution by manning the M/V Stewart J. Cort for Interlake Leasing III after American Maritime Officers members working aboard the vessel refused to switch unions and were terminated by the company.
  • A light load for total shipments during 2007 season
          With U.S.-flagged vessels loading light 1,000 times or more during the 2007 season, total cargo movement on the Great Lakes fell to 104 million net tons, a decline of 5.2 percent compared with the previous year.
