Union accepting resumés for new shoreside, seagoing job opportunities as online CHART system is developed
|
American Maritime Officers is developing a Career History, Assessment and Recruitment Tracking (CHART) system to optimize the application process and employment potential for AMO members interested in shoreside and seagoing jobs under the union's new agreement with Faststream Recruitment.
The CHART system will be available online in the near future. While the system is being developed, AMO members interested in new opportunities under the Faststream agreement can send simple resumés defining work experience and training history to AMO Director of New Business Tom Laird by e-mail at tlaird@comcast.net.
As shoreside and seagoing positions become available through Faststream, they will be posted with AMO Dispatching, and guidance will be available to AMO members qualified for and interested in specific positions. Hiring for these positions will be competitive.
When the CHART system is completed, AMO members will be able to file work experience and training data online. CHART will employ a database to record information supplied by participating AMO officers. The data will be used to gauge the experience and training of participating officers, and to advise them of any additional courses and practical experience required for certain jobs. CHART will consist of the following elements:
Career History: participating AMO officers will be able to input their information into an online form, which will be accessible on the AMO Web site. AMO members will be responsible for updating their own data over time.
Assessment: AMO officers can request that STAR Center evaluate their work and training history and make recommendations to enhance their career development. Existing data in the Training Record System can be employed to maximize efficiency.
Recruitment Tracking: the database, in conjunction with the existing Training Records System, will help the union determine availability of AMO members with the required experience and training for new positions. The system will be used to generate specialized application documents for AMO members specific to the market in which new job opportunities are available.
A detailed report will be provided to the AMO membership when the CHART system is deployed.
For questions about training, assessment and career development, contact Jerry Pannell, RTM STAR Center director of member training and officer development, at (800) 942-3220 ext. 7507.
