To meet yet another training requirement, AMO's RTM Simulation, Training, Assessment and Research Center in Dania Beach now offers a one-day course in Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Defense Orientation, or CBR-D. The issue of passenger safety aboard flag-of-convenience cruise ships has roared into the spotlight several times over the past two years as vessels operated by major foreign cruise lines have suffered a variety of casualties, such as shipboard fires, collisions and engine failures. New data from the Maritime Administration Jan. 13 showed a larger and more diverse U.S. merchant fleet than all previous tallies by the agency. The U.S. Coast Guard has adopted a new policy governing medical training as required under the International Maritime Organization's Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, or STCW. AMO members enrolled in one or more classes at the Raymond T. McKay Center for Advanced Maritime Officers' Training and RTM Simulation, Training, Assessment and Research Center are asked to notify the school when they cannot attend as scheduled for personal or professional reasons. AMO members will use a newly acquired, U.S. Coast Guard certified fast rescue boat for STCW training at the Center for Advanced Maritime Officers Training (CAMOT), located at AMO headquarters in Dania Beach, Fla. |
