American Maritime Officers was among several seagoing unions, individuals and maritime industry interests to comment upon and present criticism of several provisions in the Coast Guard's draft navigation and vessel inspection circular (NVIC), Medical and Physical Evaluation Guidelines for Merchant Mariner Credentials. The following resolution was proposed by the AMO National Executive Board and unanimously adopted by American Maritime Officers members at the regularly-scheduled monthly membership meetings in Dania Beach, Fla., Toledo, Ohio, and Brooklyn, N.Y, the week of Dec. 4-8.
On behalf of the national executive board of AMO, I thank everyone who participated freely in our union's 2006 election -- as candidates for official office at various administrative levels or as individuals interested enough to learn candidates' positions and vote accordingly. I also extend congratulations to all of the successful candidates.
