Membership dues in American Maritime Officers will not increase in 2005, AMO National President Michael R. McKay announced Dec. 15.
McKay said the national executive board of AMO voted unanimously to hold AMO dues rates at current levels following the recommendation of AMO National Secretary-Treasurer Robert W. McKay. President McKay said the secretary-treasurer's "extensive review" of the union's financial records had found AMO to be "strong, sound and solid."
McKay added: "Our union is doing well, and we anticipate sustained prosperity next year. We strive constantly for effective but efficient operation, and we are confident that the excellent work done routinely by AMO members in all deep-sea, Great Lakes and inland waters trades will continue to generate new opportunity and growth."
McKay also expressed gratitude to AMO members who participate in the AMO Voluntary Political Action Fund and who write letters to the administration and Congress in support of U.S. merchant fleet promotion laws and policy initiatives "like the Jones Act and the Maritime Security Program."
He added: "I encourage AMO members to continue their support of the AMO Voluntary Political Action Fund, and I ask that they and their families continue to contact public officials to offer their views on issues that matter most to all of us. I ask AMO members who do not participate in the AMO VPAF to join the AMO majority in this cause--there is a lot at stake in Washington not only for AMO members, but for their families."
