During its quarterly meetings in October, the American Maritime Officers National Executive Board unanimously agreed to hold a new limited election for six positions. |

The nomination period for the new limited AMO election will open with the regular monthly membership meeting Dec. 3, 2007, in Dania Beach, Fla., and close at the regular meeting in the same location Jan. 7, 2008. |

Two resolutions to amend the American Maritime Officers National Constitution were adopted unanimously by the AMO National Executive Board during its quarterly meetings in October. Resolution 4 and Resolution 5 were presented to AMO members attending regularly-scheduled monthly membership meetings, held Nov. 5 in Dania Beach, Fla., and Nov. 7 in Toledo, Ohio (a quorum was not present for the regular monthly membership meeting in Brooklyn, N.Y., Nov. 9). Both resolutions were approved unanimously at the membership meetings. |

During a meeting of the National Executive Board of American Maritime Officers in New York City on Oct. 19, I proposed two significant, sensible and long overdue amendments to the AMO National Constitution -- one to give unemployed radio-electronics officers a break on AMO membership dues, and one to bring AMO even closer to greater membership participation in union-wide secret ballot elections and to elections that end without doubt and without dispute. |

The following is the new RTM STAR Center travel reimbursement policy for American Maritime Officers members and applicants attending classes at RTM STAR Center in Dania Beach, Fla., and Toledo, Ohio. The policy will be effective for travel to attend classes that have a start date of Jan. 1, 2008, or later. |

The officers and crew of two ships manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers and in all unlicensed positions by the Seafarers International Union were awarded the Admiral of the Ocean Sea (AOTOS) Mariners' Plaque for saving lives during operations in 2006 and 2007. |

Two Great Lakes Maritime Academy cadets, Amanda Bodle and Lindsey Krogel, proposed the idea for the conference last year. They took their idea to the Maritime Administration and found great support. |
