A total of more than 11.5 million net tons of dry bulk cargo were shipped aboard U.S.-flagged vessels in September, about 4 percent less than the total amount shipped in September 2004 but slightly ahead of the five-year average.
The number of U.S.-flag Lakers in service on the same day reached a new high for 2005 when 59 hulls were active on Nov. 1. That total is the same as in 2004 and equal to the month's five-year average.
