Executive Board moves to protect employment for book members
In anticipation of an industry-wide downturn in employment aboard U.S. vessels chartered by Military Sealift Command, and in response to concerns voiced by American Maritime Officers book members, the AMO National Executive Board in January unanimously adopted the following resolution.

2008 RESOLUTION (1) OF THE AMO NATIONAL EXECUTIVE BOARD

No Issuance of New Books

WHEREAS, the wind down of operation Iraqi Freedom has caused the deactivation of AMO-contracted RRF ships; and

WHEREAS, the return of the FSS and LMSR vessels to ROS has resulted in a loss of jobs and a downturn in shipping assignments; and

WHEREAS, the AMO National Executive Board has the authority and responsibility to distribute job assignments as equitably as possible.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

1. The AMO National Executive Board has adopted the following policy for the Deep Sea area effective March 1, 2008. There shall be no issuance of new books in the Deep Sea area after March 1, 2008, and this policy shall be reviewed by the AMO National Executive Board at its first meeting in 2009.

2. Effective March 1, 2008, pursuant to the AMO Offshore Shipping Rules, book members shall be shipped before applicants and permits and the AMO National Executive Board shall review this policy at its first meeting in 2009.

Date: January 9, 2008
Adopted: January 9, 2008
