• Executive Board moves to protect employment for book members
          In anticipation of an industry-wide downturn in employment aboard U.S. vessels chartered by Military Sealift Command, and in response to concerns voiced by American Maritime Officers book members, the AMO National Executive Board in January unanimously adopted the following resolution.

          The large medium-speed roll-on/roll-off vessel USNS Pomeroy recently began its new deployment with Maritime Prepositioning Squadron Three (MPSRON 3) in the Guam-Saipan area of operation for Military Sealift Command.
  • Pililaau loads largest shipment of MRAP vehicles
          The large medium-speed roll-on/roll-off vessel USNS Pililaau loaded more than 200 mine-resistant, ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles for delivery to U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. The cargo is the largest single MRAP shipment to date.
  • Training should focus on outcome, not process
          The focus of all training, especially training for maritime officers, should be on ensuring the student has the necessary knowledge, proficiency and understanding, not on assuring a minimum number of hours or weeks are spent in the classroom.
