Employment Requirements Include:

ENGINE:
  • U.S. Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer's License or higher rating, steam or motor, unlimited horsepower.
  • Refrigeration Recovery Certification, Hazardous Materials Certification.
  • Current: STCW, Passport, Merchant Mariner's Document, Drug-Free Card and Benzine Card (tankers only)
DECK:
  • U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate's License or higher rating, steam and motor, unlimited tonnage.
  • Current: STCW, Radar Observer, FCC GMDSS Operator, Hazardous Materials Certification, Passport, Merchant Mariner's Document, Drug-Free Card and Benzine Card (tankers only).
ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN & RADIO OFFICER:
  • U.S. Coast Guard Radio Officer License, Hazardous Materials Certification, Radar Repair Cerificate.
  • Current STCW, Passport, Merchant Mariner's Document, Drug-Free Card and Benzine Card (tankers only).
RADIO-ELECTRONICS OFFICER:
  • GMDSS Maintainer, Hazardous Materials Certification.
  • Current: STCW, Passport, Merchant Mariner's Document, Drug-Free Card and Benzine Card (tankers only).

Great Lakes
Employment Requirements Include:
ENGINE:

U.S. Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer's License, steam or motor, any horsepower (or higher rating)
DECK:
  • U.S. Coast First Class Pilot's License and FCC Marine Radio Operator's Permit (inspected vessels), and/or
  • U.S. Coast Guard Mate, 1,600 gross tons or higher rating (uninspected vessels)
  • There are also unlicensed employment opportunities through AMO in both the deck and engine departments of U.S. Great Lakes vessels.

U.S. Coast Guard Designated Duty Engineer, 4,000 horsepower (or higher engine rating)

DECK:

U.S. Coast Guard Master/Mate 500 gross tons officer's license (or higher deck rating)
